Breeding Marine Aquarium Fish
Within the marine aquarium industry it is becoming increasingly difficult to acquire healthy animals on a regular basis. Wild collecting of animals both within Australia and from overseas is subject to environmental conditions such as weather, oceanic variables, decreasing stock numbers and even poor visibility underwater. A large portion of aquarium fish caught in Australia are also exported to overseas markets as the selling price for these animals is often at least triple what they can be sold for in Australia. This coupled with the growing demand for tropical marine fish has lead to a shortage of available animals on a national level.
ReefCulture is designed to provide a continual supply of tropical marine reef fish to the national aquarium industry and to help alleviate growing pressure on natural populations. http://www.reefculture.com.au
